You May Not Always
Get What You Pay For
Facing a $45,000 to $50,000+ expense if they
purchased equipment quoted by either of two venders of aqueous
cleaner recycling equipment, Sta-Rite Industries, Delavan, WI,
elected instead to table their 1999 project. The company
manufactures water pumping systems and looked to address parts'
washing in pre-paint operations. Its washer tank primarily targeted
for reclamation held more than 3,000 gallons of a combination
phosphatizing/degreasing solution that was replaced on a semi-annual
basis, along with a second, similarly sized but far less
contaminated wash tank.

Disheartened by the potential costs, the
company's Environmental Engineer, Jon Raymond, lamented, "At that
price, we were absolutely dead in the water. And then Arbortech
approached us. I remember thinking how ridiculously small their
equipment seemed, especially when compared to the other proposals;
their pricing was so low, almost too low to be credible. Sure,
they did a great demonstration with a one-gallon sample at our
plant, but at full scale, I had my doubts. Still, if it would
work-consider the savings!"

Try Before You Buy
So, Raymond decided to do an onsite pilot
at Sta-Rite. "Investing time and a few dollars to see if we could
actually cut the cost for recycling the two washers by more than
half seemed very worthwhile. Thank goodness we elected to test. We
saved 60% compared to the other quotes by implementing two Washer
Washers, and, considering each unit's small 5'x3' footprint, took
up far less floor space as well. All around, Arbortech's Washer
Washer (WW) was a wonderful discovery; one that has helped us
prevent pollution, improve our painting process after cleaning,
and add dollars to our bottom line."
