|How are systems sized? How do I know what size Ineed?|

Converting gpd into WW Size:
Based on anticipated viscosity and other factors (such as temp hotter solutions typically process faster; pH extremes typically process faster than nearer to neutral) you can estimate Gallons per Square Foot (of membrane area) per Day (gfd). Typically, between 60 - 75 gallons per sq. ft. per day. Then gpd/gfd gives sq ft of membrane req'd.
"Days between wash tank dumps/recharges" are when the bath SHOULD be dumped and recharged with fresh, new chemistry, not necessarily when it actually is. For instance, the bath may be turned over 2x as frequently as needed for zero defects on the line, or ½ as often but material is cycled through the wash twice to ensure zero defects or the line operator/management "tolerates" increasing #s of reject parts rather than dump and recharge.
|How do I decode Arbortech Washer Washer model sizes from model numbers?|
WW1: 50 gallon process tank, 1 membrane, ¾ sq ft membrane area
WW2: 50 gallon process tank, 2 membranes, 1.5 sq ft membrane area
WW1HO: 150 gallon process tank, 1 membrane, 1.5 sq ft membrane area
WW2HO: 150 gallon process tank, 2 membranes, 3 sq ft membrane area
WW1MO: 150 gallon process tank, 1 membrane, 5.6 sq ft membrane area
15 Series: No process tank included (customer supplied), 7.5 or 15 sq ft membrane area
30 Series: No process tank included (customer supplied), 15, 30 or 45 sq ft membrane area
WW1 and WW2 use ¼" ID membranes ~3' in length.
WW1HO and WW2HO use ¾" ID membranes ~3' in length.
WW1MOs (There is no WW2MO
) use ¾" ID membranes, ~5' in length.
WWPROs use ¾" ID membranes, 5' or 10' in length and come with clean-in-place (CIP) plumbing and 50-gallon cleaning tank.
|What viscosity or type of oils (to be filtered out) would require additional hardware (skimmer, coalescer, etc.)?|
There is no hard and fast rule for viscosity or type. A rule of thumb is that If oil is sitting on top of the wash solution and can be blown (with breath alone) off the top of the water, the Washer Washer can handle it. If not, or not after being shut down (when oil may coalesce and float to the surface), then a skimmer or coalescer will be needed to remove oil. Providing these as part of the system is possible. A second contaminant, particulate solids, must also be considered when designing a complete system. While the WWs have a pre-filter or wye strainer for minimal solids' removal protection, where solids are present in large quantity, settling or conventional (versus membrane) filtration should be considered!
|What viscosity of cleaning agent or contaminant is too thick for the system to handle?|
Stearates can pose a design problem as previous testing has shown that they turn high viscosity in filtration or even when merely left to sit and become cool. Basically - viscosity slows process but typically permeation isn't stopped. Testing should be done to determine if the customers' chemistry can be filtered, as it may be possible to oversize the system to handle it.
|What is the estimated lead time after order placement?|
5 to 8 weeks, depending on factory loading and parts stock. Testing WWPros post-assembly takes about a week; testing smaller systems is typically accomplished in a day.
|What are the rental rates/terms for pilot operation?|

|What is the estimated install time?|
Have put a pilot into use inside an hour or two with client's assistance and prep before arrival. Except for WWPros, with an always-below-the-liquid-level fitting in their wash tank, pre-acquisition of pipe/tubing/hose/whatever to connect to/from their tank to the WW, installation may well take no longer than a shift.
|Is installation included free with purchase? If not, what is the cost?|
Are installation services offered?
Various installation options are offered depending on complexity of install.
|What are the electrical installation requirements? Can these be customized for our available facilities?|
Specified in the pilot quotation and available for systems purchased. In a nutshell though, all WWs except possibly (not necessarily though) WW1 and WW2 require three phase electrical service.
|What is the estimated time to get up to full effectiveness?|
As short as a couple hours; as long as weeks
|What operational training is included?|
As of new quotations, a single trip of 1-2 days (two days maximum) is included with purchase price, so long as equipment is within the contiguous 48 states. This can be for overseeing installation and/or training.
|Can additional training (more people, at a later date, or more in-depth) be purchased?|

|I don't want to have to take care of another piece of equipment can Arbortech monitor their equipment (WW)?|
Absolutely. When provided with an internet connection we can monitor the operation of the WW for you to make sure it's operating at optimal levels.
|Is circuit protection built in?|
Yes, fuses on transformers, overload & short circuit protection on pumps, fuses on heaters.
|Is your system UL listed? If not, why not?|
Components used are UL or CSA listed but where panels are required to have UL/CSA stamps, we have them built by appropriately qualified shops and charge extra for that. AC is not qualified for either, primarily due to complexity and costs involved in qualifying, plus very few demands for the panels to be stamped as such
|What is the reliability of the system?|
Ask our existing clientele. More than 10 years out in the field and not one membrane failure.
|What happens in a power outage? Does it require intervention for a restart? What is the restart process?|
System will simply shut down and will require a manual restart. Depending on circumstances and length of downtime, it may require nothing more than pushing the start button to emptying the process tank, exchanging/cleaning membranes, refilling the process tank and then pushing the start button.
|What are the regular maintenance items, and what is the maintenance schedule?|

|What is the proper shutdown process? What special requirements are there?|
Nothing special = turn it off or kill the power; membrane shock is of no consequence to the membranes.
|What is required for an extended shutdown period?|
Better to empty process tank and flush WW than not. If unit includes c-i-p, cleaning membranes would be recommended. Membranes drying out is of no consequence, as it would be a very serious consideration where polymeric modules are in use.
|What is the lead time for replacement parts?|
Ranges from off-our-shelves to a number of weeks, depending on timing of customer order placements and condition of stock here and at our suppliers when said order is placed.
|Is on-site repair available? At what cost?|
While Arbortech is not a general contractor, repairs specific to the WW itself can be considered if required. Cost would be placed on the work to be done and location of the plant in which the work must be accomplished.
